TEXT is an international peer reviewed journal published by the Australasian Association of Writing Programs. TEXT publishes two general issues per year and between two and four special issues per year. We have been publishing open-access, double-blind peer-reviewed articles relevant to creative writing and creative writing studies since 1997.
We have been ranked in the top quartile (Q1) by the Scimago journal ranking system in the field of Literature and Literary Theory (2022, 2023).
We are primarly interested in academic and other material concerned with creative and professional writing programs in universities, colleges, TAFEs and the community around Australia, United States, Canada, New Zealand, England, and from other English-speaking areas and programs.
TEXT includes research articles on creative and professional writing and processes, the teaching of writing, research in creative wriitng, the teaching of writing and allied topics. TEXT also includes creative work, book reviews, and occasional interviews. We may also be interested in articles of an interdisciplinary nature or research relevant to allied disciplines such as literary studies and publishing studies where the subject matter is deemed relevant to our readership. Our Special Issues series enables guest editors to focus on specific-topic collections or longer works (see below for further information).
Regarding creative work, TEXT considers contributions of stories, poetry, memoir, etc providing that the matter of the creative work concerns exploration of creativity, or the nature and processes of writing, or the nature and processes of the teaching of writing, or investigation of writers’ issues, lifestyles, or such like.
We also publish a thriving reviews section, and welcome review copies of books that are relevant to the creative and professional writing disciplines, that are published by creative and professional writing program staff, or that are the product of creative writing research higher degree programs.
Our journal is financially supported by the membership of the Australasian Association of Writing Programs (AAWP), which enables us to remain free and open access. We aim to keep our costs low, but on average each scholarly article we publish costs our organisation around AU$60.00, separate to the labour hours our editors and peer reviewers contribute. If you would like to publish with us or to show your appreciation as a regular reader, please consider supporting TEXT with a financial donation to the AAWP via Paypal, flagging in the transaction notes that your donation is intended for TEXT.
